My name is Christiane Quandt and I am working as a freelance translator. I've always been greatly interested not only in my native, but also in foreign languages and cultures, which made it easy for me to choose my career. I obviously made the right choice, because I earned my degree as a graduate translator at the FASK of the University of Mainz in Germersheim, Germany "with distinction“ in 2009. I have several years of international experience that proved very useful even during my studies there; having an awareness of the cultures connected to the languages to be translated is indispensable creating a good translation.

Living and working as a trainee abroad and in Germany helped me extend my knowledge of the Portuguese, Spanish and English-speaking world. I familiar not only with the European countries where those languages are spoken, but I was also able to get an insight into Angolan and Mozambican Portuguese during my work as an interpreter for the "Sisters of the Divine Saviour" (Orden der Schwestern vom Göttlichen Erlöser), and while translating a text by the former Mozambique Minister of Culture Miguel Mkaima into German (Link).

By participating in the translation of five cultural science articles by Brazilian authors, which were published in the recently edited book "The third margin – Vilém Flusser and Brazil" (German title: "Das dritte Ufer – Vilém Flusser und Brasilien“ , Ed. Prof. Dr. Susanne Klengel), I was able to apply my experience in scientific writing in an intercultural context and obtain a profound insight into the areas of Cultural Sciences in general and Philosophy in particular.

My knowledge in different areas of technical translations, such as technical engineering, contract law, economy and medicine, was obtained during my studies and internships, as well as in the scope of my working experience as a freelance translator.
